Imagine that you are all set to go the library - you know exactly what you are looking for....but it isn't there.  What is your next step to getting the item?  Put it on hold.

You may be wondering how holds work and how soon it will come in

Patrons can put materials on hold when they aren't in the library.  staff member will either find the item in the library or make sure that you get the item when it is your turn on the list.

holds list will have the name of all the people who are requesting an item.

The library will email or call when the item is ready for pickup.

What is a Library Hold?
You May be Wondering...

How many holds can I place?

What happens if my hold is not picked up?

How long can I keep my hold?

There's no one easy answer for these questions because library organizations make their own policies and guidelines regarding holds.  These policies are available on the library website, and staff members will be happy to answer any question you may have.

Managing Your Hold

Managing your holds online gives you options on when to receive your items and lets you see how far you are in the queue.  If you want to know more about managing your holds, contact your local librarian, and they can help you.

If you know what you are going out of town or won't have time to enjoy your hold when it is ready, you can pause or suspend your hold and your spot will be saved when you are ready.  If you decide that you do not want the item, you can cancel the hold.
